Katoula - Wanna Play?

Introducting Katoula! She came into our lives and stole our hearts from the moment we saw her. It's hard to believe that when we first met Katoula in September she was a shy girl. Very different from our first beloved Ridgie, Solomon, who was Mr. Outgoing and known by everyone in our neighborhood. He died of cancer this summer and we knew we had to bring another RR into our family to make it complete.
Enter sweet, spunky, shy Katoula. We enrolled in obedience training right away, as I wanted to make sure that I was not reinforcing Katoula's fears. With the encouragement of many treats, praises and friends, her shyness and fears melted away. It has been rewarding to see her blossom and grow. She is confident, like RR's should be, and now she just wants to have fun. And lay in front of the fireplace, sniff everything when we go on walks, re-make our beds (apparently we don't know how to properly make them), respectfully hog the bed each night, snuggle, kiss and greet every dog she sees. Katoula even greets the people!
We are so thankful for RRUS -they matched us with the perfect dog.
Does anybody wanna play?

well now, there's a familiar face... yep, i know someone who would wanna play - katoula's former ridgie foster sister, bean - those two together were like a wildfire in high winds... we shall not soon forget the famous submarine tactics that are katoula's romping trademark, lol!

kat's rescue road was long and winding, but once she got back to health in foster care - she had plans..."hmmm, i'm gonna knock the socks off those folks coming to meet me" - i'll have to second your emotion, debi... katoula indeed stole your hearts, right before my very eyes - she had you at "hello"!!

she'll continue to amaze you, i can guarantee it - katoula has been so blessed by your intuitive guidance - it is as we've been talking about with other ridgies on the blog - sometimes the progress comes painfully slow but when they get it, they get it - and their fast forward embracing of life knowing they are a loved member of a family is a true gift

solomon's passing must still be so very painful for you...and rightfully so - you lost a member of your family - i think somehow katoula can sense his presence in your heart and home and she endeavors to make you all proud - to do right by sol's awesome rr spirit

take care and keep us updated on the life and times of katoula : )

Hi, Debi - Katoula overnighted at my house on her way to Iowa and then to your house. It's hard to believe this picture is of the same patchy leopard spotted girl who stopped in for the night. Her coat is now beautiful, her eyes are full of light and mischief - good job! I'm happy for her and for you.

What a wonderful, heartwarming story. She's beautiful: one of my favorite 'poses' of the RRs is when they face you like Katoula and you can see the ridge so clearly. Congratulations!
