Cooper's New Digs

Cooper, the latest addition to our family has had a week to settle in and is doing very well. He came to live with us the Friday before Easter and barely had a chance to investigate the whole house before he was whisked away to Charleston for the weekend. Not only did Cooper quickly warm up to his adopted sister "Brooke-dog", he turned out to be the best behaved amongst four of his peers that weekend.
Over the past week Brooke, Brooke-dog and I have all grown very fond of Cooper and we would really like to thank Allyson, Patti and everyone involved with RRUS for the time, effort, money and love that they give to help these incredible animals find their forever homes.

Hyatt and Gus again!

Hyatt and Gus again! I've got 2 other sons but Hyatt and Gus are inseparable! This is one of Hyatt's favorite places to crawl in and Gus has got to be right there! Whenever Gus has had enough of him, he just starts lickin' him!

Gracie and her Bros

Gracie is settling into her new home. Angus (Rhodesian Ridgeback) and Jake (Austrailia Cattle Dog) are good brothers and have let Ms. Gracie take over the couch. After only one week in her forever home, she wears the tiara and is called Princess. Thank you for our little girl.

TJ, Taylor and Harvey

TJ, Taylor and Harvey

TJ, and Taylor with Harvey, the eight year old bunny, in backyard. We waited quite a while to get them used to each other and now they all play together very well. TJ and Taylor, sorry to say, think pellets are gourmet treats - yuk. I have fouled up this post several times so will quit here. Hope everyone had a happy Easter. Jackie

Head to Head

The last picture I posted was pretty much of the same thing. Gotta love how these hounds can sleep like the dead. Last night they both squeezed into the same bed, even though they each have their own. They're like an old married couple:) That's Morgan, the liver nose, on the left and Curtis, the lover nose on the right.

Ridgebacks and Food

This weekend I was lucky to have a few of RRUS' former adopters and some of their dogs in my home for a weekend visit for a local dog show. It was all about food, fun, and friendships. Each one of us has adopted a Ridgeback, then became volunteers for RRUS, and through our experiences in rescue became close friends.

We all know Ridgebacks are FOOD HOUNDS. Pictured is Champ and Roadie, both former RRUS foster dogs, trying to will the chips away from the toddler. It did not work- they did not get any chips but both sure were cute in their attempts. This is Champ- he is trying his best to get the attention Champ says "Look into my eyes. You want to give me a chip."

Here's Roadie. True to his livernose heritage, he was more pushy and in your face about his begging. If Roadie could talk, he would heard as saying "Come on- give me a chip- PLEEEEEASE! Why not?? But I said 'Please.'"

I hope to have all the dogs and humans together again SOON.

SNOW DAY

It started snowing Friday at noon and continued for nearly 24 hours. The National Weather Service reported a total of 11 inches.

Now Bacari and Nina Beans were not Fans of the white stuff. They would venture out only to do their business and head back into the warm house.
Roadie, on the other hand, thought it was wonderful. He ran around the yard like a fool.

Ready for Spring,
Amanda

Gus is getting big!

Remembering.......

We got Gus right after Christmas. He's now about 40 pounds @ almost 6 months. My 1 year old just started walking and Gus completely plows him down! I'll try and send pics if I can figure it out!
The bottom pic (if it works) is of Hyatt and Gus looking for their daddy and bros!

I came across this poem in one of the Ridgeback forums:

The family's dog was bought for a guard,

Chained to a post in a chilly backyard,
Housed in a shed that was airless and dark,
And every few weeks had a run in the park.
When boredom set in with no fun and no work,
One day it broke loose and went quietly berserk.
Pa couldn't fathom just why it went wild,
As it flattened his wife and then bit his child.
The police were called in to sort out the mess,
And the whole sorry tale was revealed by the press,
The Rescue Society was really annoyed,
So, the dog was re homed--and the owners destroyed.

Tired Puppies

After a visit from friends with their 3 year old, Morgan and Curtis needed a little nap. They stayed in this postion pretty much all day. Poor babies.

RRUS is in need of foster homes. The more foster homes we have, the more dogs we can save. This is because we do not long term board any of the dogs that come into the group. All of them are placed in foster homes where they can be with people and exposed to all sorts of situations. This allows us to better judge the best home for the dog. If you or someone you know might be interested in fostering please contact us or fill out an application. It does not matter what state you are in, we can use your help. We are a national organization and have members all across the US. If you aren't sure fostering is for you but want to talk to someone about it please contact us. We have several experienced fosterers who will gladly talk to you. We also have mentors who will walk you through your fostering experience. We won't leave you high and dry with a foster dog!

If fostering just isn't something you can do but you would still like to volunteer, please contact us! We take all sorts of volunteers and we will gladly find a way to use your skills! :)
