Fall Playdate

Last weekend, a few former RRUS adopters got together for a HUGE playdate. I wanted to share some pictures of our fun-filled weekend. Enjoy! Amanda

A typical RR Dumb Run and a few play bows- there were a few of these before the temps heating up and they lounged around or tried to romp in the house.

Here's Roadie and Ella mixing it up in the house. Roadie initiated all this play w. some really loud barking which scared Ella at first until she figured out he was all bark and no bite!

Morgan, Sierra, and Ella (left to right) waited patiently at the door to get back inside to cool off.
This is Sierra, a former puppy mill rescue who was so scared. Can't tell it now- she has found her inner Ridgeback. Thank you Stephanie and David for making her into the dog she should have always been.

Here's Champ and Sadie- taking a break in the shade.

Roadie Goes to College

I recently transported a dog for RRUS as I was driving that way for a RR playdate; Roadie went as my co-pilot. It turned out to be a very eventful trip. It was scheduled initially get a foster dog to her new family but then RRUS learned of a dog in a kill shelter only 2 hours from where I was going. So we headed north to get her. By all accounts this sweet girl is truly a special soul and well worth the extra time on the road. I spoke w. her foster mom last night. She has stolen the hearts of her foster family and will be ready for adoption soon.

Our trip took us through the town where I went to college. So I could not turn down the chance to get some pics of Roadie on campus.

So here he is. Roadie's first trip to the Loveliest Village on the Plains- that's Auburn University for all those who may not know.

Harley, Roadie, and the 3rd Wheel

We recently moved further SOUTH! Yippee- I love the warm weather and sweet tea!! But one of the advantages of moving was the fact that we moved to a town where there is another RRUS adopter. Roadie has gotten together w. Harley a few times (actually she is coming to stay this weekend!). They love to play and seems to have endless energy when they are together.

Here are some pictures of the last playdate (I am sure this weekend will provide many more photo ops!) You can't even see Harley in this one as Roadie pounces on her.

We had three dogs playing INSIDE. They seemed to stand around outside but let them in and the romping begins. Why is that?

The third dog is our newest addition- Logan. He was not a RRUS dog. I was contacted by a local RR breeder who knew a dog in need of a new home. His former family was deployed- dad and then mom. I can't thank both of them enough for their service to our country and also trusting us with their puppy. Since Roadie was depressed by the loss of Bacari (and Beans)- we decided that another dog was just the thing he needed. So far Logan has fit in so well and Roadie's spirits are lifted. Logan is a mini me RR- turned 8 months old this week, weighing only 55 pounds! But what he lacks in size, he makes up in sweetness- he is sooooo loving. Here's a pic of the Lil' Man.
Enjoy the pics and I hope to have some more to post after our weekend w. Harley. I doubt there will be a dull moment.

First Hiking Trip with Vic

Hi everyone,

We thought we would post a few photos of our first camping trip with our new puppy - Vic (short for Victory).  We hiked up into Badger lake in northern Oregon and Vic couldn't get enough of all of the new smells.  She is learning not to chase the chipmunks and to get along with her big, but little, brother Titus.  She carried in an empty backpack this time, but will start to carry in her own kibbles when she is ready.  Vic was the perfect Northwest girl during the hike, but needs to work on sharing the tent with us a little better.  We are excited to go on more adventures with our canine companions!

Scott and Madeline

ps.  Many thanks to Amanda for her help in getting Vic to us.

Gracie's 6th Birthday

Gracie has just celebrated her 6th Birthday, her first with us. She had a peanut butter cake which she shared (reluctantly) with her brothers. Gracie has adjusted to life with a family. She loves to play in her yard with her brothers. Thanks to you we have our little girl. We will send more pictures soon.

Canine Good Citizen

One of the RRUS volunteers, Joyce Lazell, is responsible for the Canine Good Citizen (CGC) testing at the RRCUS nationals next week.

In light of all the Breed specific legislation (BSL), Joyce would like RRs to be the first breed to have a 90% CGC pass rate. She needs our help in the monumental undertaking. So if your dog has passed the CGC exam, please email Joyce at joyce.lazell@highmark.com. She needs your dog's call name, AKC number, breeder, and owner's name (or any of the information that you have).

If you have not gotten your RR through the CGC exam, please look into it.
Here's a link to the AKC website: http://www.akc.org/events/cgc/program.cfm

I have gotten a CGC on both Bacari and Roadie. It was a great experience. It was a confidence builder for Bacari and a bonding time for Roadie and me. It also was not that hard- both my boys liked being in the ring and getting all the attention. You can't use treats during the test but are allowed to talk to the dog as much as you want.

If you have any questions about CGC, please feel free to ask.

You Got a Friend in Me

Here are some pictures of Roadie w. some of his friends- Chase and Sena. Chase is such a handsome loverboy. And Sena- as her momma says "have you ever seen-a cuter puppy?" No, I have not.Roadie sharing some secrets w. Sena.

Sena, Roadie, and Chase were not too much into romping as it was a warm morning. I love to see them break out into a dumb run but I don't blame them- I was a bit toasty.

Roadie loves playing w. other dogs but seems to prefer Ridgebacks. It's almost like they totally understand one another.

Enjoy the photos

Exercise, Exersice & More Exercise

It has been awhile since we blogged, but believe me we have not forgotten about it. We check it all the time, but we get so caught up in other blogs we forget to add our own.

It has been a little over a year since we adopted Kyah. When we adopted her she weighed in around 35 lbs. I just took her to the vet last week for her yearly exam and she now weighed in at 90 lbs.

We have had our ups and downs, just like everyone I am sure, but we would not change it for anything. Kyah has "A Lot" more energy than we were used to with our older dog Samson, who just turned 10. So one of the best things I ever did was to teach Kyah to walk on the treadmill. When we first got her we went for walks/runs all the time, but then the weather started to turn bad and I had to find another way to release her energy. I saw an episode of Cesar showing an owner how to get their dog to use the treadmill and told Amy that is the answer. Thankfully we just inherited a second treadmill a few months earlier. After a day or so of training Kyah was walking on the treadmill like a champ. So "almost" everyday Kyah and I get a 30 minute walk in the morning and around 45 minutes in the afternoon.

I am limited to the pictures I have as I am on my work computer, but promise to add more over the next several days. We have tons of pictures, but like most people they are still on the camera.
